This year, Kiwanis' main fundraiser, The Taste of Pine Island, was cancelled because of rain and the wet conditions of the fields. Without this event, the club's ability to provide scholarships to deserving Pine Island students was severely limited.
The Kiwanis has been very helpful in the past to one of our own, Francisco Castaneda. He was honored to receive the Kiwanis Scholarship in 2011, along with the Kiwanis Skip Schwartz award.
It was our pleasure and great honor to be able to give back and help make a positive impact on the youth of our community.
We look forward to being part of next year's Kiwanis' Taste of Pine Island. The Kiwanis Club has raised more that $250,000 in scholarship money since 1985, supporting many projects and organizations that benefit the youth of the island.
